Technical Directors and Runners

Showcomotion runs smoothly thanks to the efforts of the small team of TDs and runners who assist the Conference Production Manager and the volunteer producers in each of the conference cinemas.  Volunteers for these roles tend to be newcomers to the kids’ media sector – or aspirants.  A background in media studies, or proven interest in children’s media is required. Showcomotion will provide free registration, travel and accommodation to successful applicants.

Technical Directors take responsibility for the technical aspects of each session, ensuring that visuals such as PowerPoint presentations or videos are checked, loaded, cue’d up and ready to go. They liaise with technician and the producer of the session to ensure a seamless “show”.  They also supervise the runners in their conference room.

Runners are either attached to a conference room or to the Conference Production Manager. Their role is to trouble-shoot for the TD and session producers, to ensure that speakers are all in the right place at the right time and their visual material gathered in time for rehearsal.  They reset the conference stage furniture and any other facilities needed for a particular session. During the session they man the “roving” microphones to capture audience questions and debate.

The time commitment for these roles is a full day of briefing and rehearsal on the first day of the conference, and two further full  conference days subsequently.
